The Fantasticks
Rhinebeck Theatre Society is pleased to present The Fantasticks, the world’s longest-running musical, written by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones.
This is the romantic and funny story of two neighboring fathers who trick their children, Luisa and Matt, into falling in love through the cunning use of reverse psychology. The handsome and sophisticated El Gallo, our narrator, leads the young lovers from the dreamy moonlight into the sun, where weaknesses in their relationship are illuminated. They grow apart and finally find their way back to each other discovering a more mature, meaningful love, and realizing the truth in El Gallo’s words: “without a hurt, the heart is hollow.” With songs like “Try to Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain”, the music is as timeless as the story itself.
Directed by Tina Reilly, music directed by Michael Berkeley, choreographed by Amber McCarthy, and produced by Dorothy Luongo.
Appropriate For All Audiences
